Cupping invokes the use of silicon cups, which are placed on areas of the body where there is tight or hardened soft tissue (such as scar tissue), pain, trigger points, restriction of movement or lymphatic flow and circulation. It is incredibly helpful with the treatment of edema and inflammation. A variety of techniques, such as parking the cups or lifting and moving them, can be used depending upon the issue being addressed. This is a particularly good modality for people who need deep tissue work but find it usually too painful. Ten minutes of cupping can accomplish more than 30 minutes of deep tissue massage.
