SOmatic Therapy / Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is not a modality but the result of applied techniques.

Our fascial system is technically comprised of all of the soft tissue (connective tissue) inside of us. This fiber-and-fluid-based system includes what are known as our superficial, deep, and loose fascial layers, as well as our ligaments and tendons.  While we often picture our individual body parts as independent structures, in truth, our fascia weaves our muscles, bones, organs, nerves, and blood vessels together into an interconnected and interdependent whole.

Incredibly nerve dense, our fascia holds the story of our lived experience.  It's where biography becomes biology, what makes you uniquely you. As such this is where we hold our emotions, where tension and trauma reside. A release in restriction can be a release of a long held and perhaps forgotten memory. Good or bad. Often somatic therapy is used as an adjunct to talk therapy because it addresses the body in its own language. Though we speak in terms of release the real goal is of safe integration, becoming whole and fully embodied.

Keeping this in mind, a somatic therapy session focuses not only on the problem areas (pain, tension, restriction, emotional trauma) but how those areas effect the rest of the body as well as your emotional and mental landscape.  The techniques can range from active and passive stretches, cupping and massage, aromatherapy, as well as the more subtle modalities of Reiki and Cranial Sacral based therapies. Each session is unique to each client and is based upon what they need on a session to session basis.
